It may take a little more time and creativity, but making Halloween costumes from odds and ends is what it’s all about. A few years back I taught sewing at housing facility for victims of domestic abuse. When Halloween rolled around, the children flooded into the sewing studio to discuss and design the costumes they wanted to make. With an overabundance of donated items, fabric, you name it, the entire project was well worth the time and any extra work I had to do. Spongebob posed a challenge but was ultimately created by using two pieces foam which were covered in sponge looking fabric and attached like a sandwich board. The facial features were just felt cut outs and the nose was made by sewing and stuffing a piece of tee shirt and anchoring it into the foam with a few stitches and glue. This one was a winner.
